Overview
Pretense is a local-first AI firewall. By design, your code and secrets never leave your machine through Pretense infrastructure. The mutation proxy runs entirely on your local system. This architecture means we collect far less data than a typical SaaS product.
Data We Collect
What we do NOT collect
- Your source code, proprietary identifiers, or mutation maps
- API keys, credentials, or secrets: these never pass through our servers
- LLM prompt or response content
What we may collect
- Account data (Pro/Enterprise): name, work email, company name when you sign up for a paid plan.
- Aggregate telemetry (opt-in only): mutation counts, scan durations, error rates. No code content, fully anonymized.
- Marketing site analytics: page views and conversion events via privacy-friendly analytics (no cross-site tracking).
Cookies
The Pretense CLI and proxy use no cookies. The marketing site (pretense.ai) uses:
- Session cookies: required for authenticated dashboard access.
- Analytics cookies (minimal, opt-out available): anonymous page-view counting with no cross-site fingerprinting.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Stripe: payment processing for Pro/Enterprise plans. We never store raw card numbers.
- Vercel: hosting for the marketing site and dashboard.
- PostHog: privacy-friendly product analytics for the marketing site and dashboard (no cross-site tracking).
Data Retention
Account data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days after cancellation, after which it is permanently deleted. Aggregate telemetry is retained for up to 12 months in anonymized form. You may request immediate deletion by contacting us below.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to processing or request restriction
- Data portability: receive your data in machine-readable format
